Use this quick self-assessment to reflect on your emotional intelligence (EQ) across five core areas. Rate yourself on each statement below using the following scale: 
 
1 = Rarely 
2 = Sometimes 
3 = Often 
4 = Always 
 

1. Self-Awareness 

☐ I recognize my emotions as I experience them. 

☐ I understand how my feelings affect my behavior and performance. 

☐ I am aware of my personal strengths and limitations. 

 

2. Self-Regulation 

☐ I remain calm under pressure or stress. 

☐ I avoid impulsive decisions and consider the consequences. 

☐ I manage my emotions effectively in challenging situations. 

 

3. Motivation 

☐ I set personal goals and strive to achieve them. 

☐ I stay optimistic even when faced with obstacles. 

☐ I am driven to improve myself and my work. 

 

4. Empathy 

☐ I try to understand things from others’ perspectives. 

☐ I can sense the emotions of others, even when they are not verbally expressed. 

☐ I respond with compassion when someone shares a concern with me. 

 

5. Social Skills 

☐ I communicate clearly and effectively. 

☐ I build strong relationships at work. 

☐ I manage conflicts constructively and respectfully. 

 

Scoring & Reflection 

Add up your scores for each section. A higher total indicates greater strength in that area of EQ. 
 
Reflection prompts: 
- Which area did you score highest in? What helps you excel there? 
- Which area might need more focus? What steps can you take to improve it? 
- Consider setting one EQ-related goal for the next month.
